Convenience Center proposals reviewed and Republic
Services in negotiations with the County
Following a two and a half hour special meeting to meet
individually with each firm interested in
serving the next 5 to 10 years as the County’s
convenience center operator, the Bertie Board of
Commissioners voted unanimously on March 2nd
at its regular meeting to open contract
negotiations with Republic Services. Republic’s
proposal includes a ten year contract term and a
monthly fee of $36,859 or $442,308 which is a
savings of 10 percent or more than a $500,000
over the life of the proposed agreement. The
contract extension proposal from Waste
Industries would continue the current annual
cost of $496,180 for the operation of the
County’s five solid waste and recycling
convenience centers.
