Workforce

Bertie County, North Carolina's education and business leaders recognize that continued economic health demand a highly skilled and motivated workforce. We already have a solid foundation, with nearly a quarter-million workers living within an hour of the county, but we're concentrating on the future.

That's why local K-12 and postsecondary educators are focused on developing and strengthening the skills our workforce will need to ensure an even stronger local economy. Bertie County's high schools and higher education providers are delivering sound programs for today's in-demand skills, from welding and HVAC-R, to agriscience and other life sciences, to engineering, hospitality and culinary technology. Students receive an education built around practical, workforce-applicable skills, giving employers a steady stream of well-trained workers. North Carolina's community colleges and workforce boards are nationally known for working with employers to design effective programs, and where necessary, to deliver customized training at employer facilities. They also offer a general credential called the Career Readiness Certificate.

By combining the efforts of the business community and our educational resources, we've been sharpening a workforce in fields such as:

  • AgriScience/Biotechnology

  • Agriculture

  • Auto Mechanics

  • Carpentry

  • Engineering

  • Health Care Professions

  • Hospitality & Culinary Technology

  • Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R)

  • Industrial Systems Technology

  • Law Enforcement

  • Public Safety

  • STEM
