Bertie County and Town of Windsor officials continue to coordinate with NC Emergency Management staff to compile damage assessment estimates for impacted areas countywide and the Town of Windsor, in order to determine the level of State financial assistance available for residents and business impacted by last week’s flooding.

Immediate assistance for unmet needs such as replacement of medication, lost dentures, food and short term housing is available through the Red Cross, which has staff at the Department of Social Services building and is located at 110 Jasper Avenue.  Red Cross services will continue through Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week.

For immediate assistance with clean-up, muck-out, removal of soiled carpet, wet drywall and soggy insulation or duct work removal, residents are encouraged to visit:

  • The United Methodist Disaster Relief application center at the NC mobile disaster recovery center located at the rear parking lot of the County’s Department of Social Services building at 110 Jasper Avenue.

  • The North Carolina Baptist Men are taking applications to assist residents with flood damage clean-up and are located at the Cashie Baptist Church at 221 South Queen Street in Windsor.

  • Disaster hotline for information is available at 252-794-5320.

Additional information regarding the availability of specific financial assistance will be forthcoming.

Citizens whose residences were not impacted are encouraged to check on their family members, friends and neighbors who may need a helping hand or someone to run errands for them.  Please consider what your church, civic organization or individual citizen can do to support their community at this critical time of stress and concern for the people impacted by this flooding.
