Erika
The remnants of ERIKA
(Disturbance #1) are causing gusty winds and
rain in southern Florida. The National
Hurricane Center (NHC) gives Disturbance #1
a 30% chance of reforming into a tropical
cyclone over the next few days.
Tropical Storm FRED formed early Sunday
morning near Cape Verde. The storm
(located approximately 3800 miles east of
Cape Hatteras) is currently moving towards
the northwest at 20 MPH and is expected to
continue on that track through Tuesday.
FRED may strengthen over the next 36 hours
but will likely weaken gradually after that
time.
Neither of these systems appears to pose a
threat to North Carolina. The next
NCEM Tropical Outlook will be released at
6PM today (8/30).
Please note that the tropical storm name
should be FRED.
